Should your mattress be firm?
The short answer is, “It depends.” Yup! It’s just not that easy.
The most common misconception is, “A firm mattress is good for your back.”
It’s only part of the picture. A firm mattress may be more supportive of our bodies, but it will be our sleep posture that determines if it’s good for our back or not.
A mattress that is too firm can lead to more back problems due to incorrect spinal alignment. Having the right balance between firmness and softness will be vital in choosing the right mattress.
Studies have shown a medium to medium-firm mattress tends to perform best in terms of sleep quality, pressure relief, proper back support, and overall satisfaction with the new bed.
There are no issues with wanting a firm mattress as long as it is the right balance of firmness and softness for you.
Your mattress should be versatile enough to accommodate your different postures providing support and comfort.
